Japan finances railway works

Japan’s government has approved a 221 million USD loan to help Romania upgrade its railway linking the capital Bucharest to Constanta, Romanian Foreign Ministry announced last week.

The credit is part of Japan’s Official Development Aid for developing states and is the second such facility for Romania. In 1997, Japan provided 180 million USD for construction of a container terminal in the Constanta South port.

The project should facilitate high-speed train links, improve services and increase freight transport on the Bucharest to Constanta route.
